FAQ's - Semaglutide

Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. It mimics the GLP-1 hormone that is released in the gastrointestinal tract in response to eating. One role of GLP-1 is to prompt the body to produce more insulin, which reduces blood glucose (sugar). GLP-1 in higher amounts also interacts with the parts of the brain that reduce appetite and signal a feed of fillness.

Semaglutide is approved to help adults and children aged 12 years and older with obesity or some adults with excess weight (overweight), who also have weight-related medical problems, to lose weights and keep the weight off, in addition to diet and excercise.

Individuals who received Semaglutide lost an average of 15% of their body weight, a significant reduction compared to other weight loss drugs on the mark. According to the FDA and multiple clinical trials, Semaglutide has a generally acceptable safety profile when used at the recommended doses for weight loss. However, like any other drug, it is not without potential side effects.

It is not painful, semaglutide is injected once a week under the skin of your stomach, thighs, or upper arm. Use a different body area each time you come in for an injection.

Semaglutide for weight loss should be initiated at 5 units (0.25mg) once weekly and injected subcutaneously without regard to meals. Dose escalation should occur after 4 weeks to doses of 10 units (0.5mg) and  20 units (1mg). Maintenance dose will depend on the toleration of the patient

More than half of patients are able to maintain weight loss achieved while on semaglutide or liraglutide even after a year after discontinuation of the medication. However, a portion of the patients stopped with healthy eating and physical activity and may have gained some weight back.

Before considering semaglutide, you should consult with a healthcare professional to discuss the potential risks and benefits.During consultation we will take lab work and health history, including any medications or supplements you are taking.
