What is Sclerotherapy?

It is the treatment of varicose blood vessels by the injection of an irritant which causes inflammation, coagulation of blood, and narrowing of the blood vessel wall. The veins are injected with a solution called sclerosing, which damages the internal lining of the vein and causes blood clotting within the vein.
Am I eligible for Sclerotherapy?

Before the procedure, you will meet with a provider who will evaluate your eligibility for sclerotherapy. You are not eligible for sclerotherapy if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or are bedridden. You must wait at least 3 months after delivery before you can be considered for this procedure. You can have sclerotherapy if you take birth control pills. If you have had a blood clot in the past, you will not be eligible.

How painful is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy does not generally hurt. The slight pinch of the needle is likely all you’ll feel during your treatment.
How many sessions will I need?

Sclerotherapy is the best option available to remove unwanted spider veins. In general terms and under optimal conditions, patients can achieve desirable results within 4 treatment sessions. Varicose veins take 3 to 4 months. To get the best results, you may need 4 or 12 treatments.

What are the risks?

After the procedure, patients can experience several symptoms such as swelling, aching, and burning around the injected area. Some people have also reported experiencing night cramps in the injected area.Other’s experienced stinging and bruising around the area.
